Dear Parents and Guardians
I recall a headteacher I worked with saying, "We will believe half of what your children say about us if you believe half of what they say about you." While I don't fully agree, it's important to recognize that children often share their own version of events.
This week, I've been addressing several reports of rough play among our older students. It's essential to remember that many of these children missed out on crucial social interactions during lockdown, which has impacted their play behaviour. Rough play is common and usually not meant to be harmful, but it can sometimes get out of hand.
Your children may say, or you may think that, we do nothing about it, but we have been actively discussing rough play with the children for quite sometime now It is in our Happymind sessions and our KiVa sessions. Unfortunately, I've had to deal with multiple incidents this week where the reality differs from what was initially reported. While we encourage play, we must draw the line at rough play. Moving forward, any child caught engaging in rough play will lose their outside break time for a period.
I appreciate your understanding as we work to ensure a safe and productive environment for all students. Thank you also for your understanding while we had some digital infrastructure work done in the school. It was quite nice not having any internet or phones!!!
If you have any concerns or questions, please feel free to reach out. Have a wonderful weekend!
